Marathon/Half Marathon


The marathon and half marathon at the 2014 Gay Games presented by the Cleveland Foundation will be run in Akron through the streets of the city. 2014 Gay Games expects over 600 runners of all skill levels to take part in this challenging event.

Akron-Summit County sports are hosted by the Gay Community Endowment Fund of Akron Community Foundation.

The Akron Marathon course is a USA Track and Field-certified course. The 2014 Gay Games-specific course map will be available soon.


2014 Gay Games will announce transportation arrangements for the participants as soon as they are confirmed.

Half Marathon
Half Marathon

Each event has men’s and women’s divisions further broken down into age categories. The best three times in each gender’s age group will receive a medal.  A participant’s age group is determined by that person’s age as of the first day of competition, Sunday, 9 August 2014.  

The age groups are as follows:

18-29 30-34 35-39 40-44
45-49 50-54 55-59 60-64
65-69 70-74 75-79 80-84
85-89 90-94 95-99 100+


Participants in the Marathon and Half Marathon will receive a bib with a B-Tag timing chip. Bib colors and numbers will be differentiated to designate Marathon and Half Marathon participants.

*Note:  Participants registering for the Marathon and Half Marathon are eligible to compete in the 5K and 10K Road Races without paying an additional fee when they complete their event registrations. Select this option when you register. Please refer to the Road Races page for further detail.


A participant may compete only in the Marathon or Half Marathon and only in one age division.

The Marathon must be completed within six hours and the Half Marathon within 3.5 hours.

Marathon runners must reach split with a time of 3:15 to continue the race.

Akron Marathon - Downtown Akron - 177 South Broadway Street - Akron, Ohio

The 2014 Gay Games Marathon and Half Marathon will travel through the streets of downtown Akron. The races will use the same courses as the Akron Marathon, an annual race that draws over 15,000 participants to the area. That marathon is nationally recognized as one of the top 50 events in the country, with the number of participants growing exponentially each year. The Akron Marathon has hosted a number of Championship races in the past including the USA Track & Field (USATF) North American Men’s Marathon Relay Championships and the USATF Woman’s 8K National Championship.
